Hello,
I signed up for this site a week ago after my wife sent me a link to the site and offered a 'nudge' to get me started. I've been keeping a food/exercise journal on a spreadsheet for a few months now and have lost about 20 pounds over the past 11 months. My goal is to lose another 25-30 pounds and maintain that weight through my 30's (and after).
A little about me:
I'm 5’8”, 32 years old and currently weight about 190 pounds. Two years ago when I turned 30 I went through a lot of changes in my life. I had recently taken a new job and moved back with my parents for the job. It was my 3rd job and 3rd move in 2 years and the stress of bouncing around was taking a toll on my weight. When I was 24-29 years old, I weighed 165-175 and was very active. When I moved back with my parents I was about 180 pounds and was beginning to balloon. Over the next 18 months I gained 30 pounds. The unhealthy weight gain correlated with my new stressful job (busy job, long commute, tyrant boss). Fortunately, I was able to get a new job, move out of my parent’s place and regain my independent life. New beginnings lead to more beginnings; I quit smoking, I proposed to my girlfriend, lost 20 pounds and we got married a few months ago.
My goals:
I’ve been 190 pounds since February, 2010. I haven’t weighed less than 170 pounds since I was in my mid-twenties and feel getting as close to the normal BMI for my height would be the best thing I can do for myself. I think losing the weight and getting in better shape will bring back the confidence I had when I was in my 20’s. I also want to look my best for my beautiful wife .
I also want to be healthier. My family has a history of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type II diabetes, kidney and gall stones and cancer. As I begin to plan my future I not only want to get and stay healthy, but to be a good role model for my family and friends. Weight loss is only part of the many goals I have to be a better and healthier person. Losing the initial 20 pounds lowered my total cholesterol level to under 200 mg/dL and I have normal blood pressure and fasting blood glucose levels. I hope to maintain them for as long as possible.
Physically, I’d like to see how fit I can be. I used to run races (5k, 10k, ½ marathons) and would like to get back into it. Earlier this year I finished a ½ marathon and a triathlon. I would like to see if I can beat some of my previous personal best times from my 20’s. Apparently, endurance athletes are at their best in their 30’s. I also love to golf and play volleyball. I hope to continue to play any sport while avoiding injuries.
So, hello everyone!! I wish you all well in acheiving your goals
