The Struggle

I know just about everyone has a hard time with this so I'm looking for helpful tips and encouragement: I like to eat... even when I'm not hungry. I go looking for food and as I start to eat I realize I'm not actually hungry, usually I'm bored or trying to relieve some sort of stress (although when I get really stressed I don't eat at all). I try to be good about checking with myself and drinking a glass of water to see if I'm really hungry or just thirsty or bored, but sometimes that chips and salsa just sounds too good or I think "I'm eating something healthy" but it just adds calories that my body obviously doesn't need.

It's fine as long as you are under your calories. I do that too sometimes... I just eat less later.0

I used to boredom eat, took me a while to get myself out of it.
Now when I am bored and feel like eating I do something - go for a walk or cycle, even if it is just up and down my street (my neighbours think I am mental) or I read a book (at the moment it's wedding magazines, there is nothing like looking at wedding dresses to curb my eating lol).
Find a hobby that involves your hands... take up knitting, crocheting, cross stitch, painting.
Pick a subject and learn about it.
There are loads of ways to keep your brain occupied.
Do not keep high calorie foods in the house until you find what works for you, have fruit, vegetables, even low calorie jelly (hartleys do a 10 calorie one).
Good Luck x0 -
I try to remember to ask myself "Are you really hungry, or are you just bored/anxious/stressed/whatever?"
Usually the answer is that I'm not hungry, but sometimes I eat anyway. Because I'm human. As someone said up-thread, I try to make up for it later.0 -
i keep raw veggies in the fridge to munch on with a non or low fat dressing. satiates that munchie craving but doesn't do any damage to your daily goals.
I gotta save my calories for beer and chocolate, after all0
