My Polar HRM died on me. Should I just get a new one or get the Fitbit Charge HR? Why? Let me know!

Hi, I have both and love both for different reasons. I have a Polar FT7 and used it exclusively for the gym to track calorie burns. I also have a Fitbit Charge HR to track my all day activity. The HRMs are only pretty accurate for steady state cardio; not for all day use. The Fitbit Charge HR is good for all day tracking but not a good guesstimate for steady state cardio.

With that said, I did compare my HRM with the Charge HR and they weren't too far apart in tracking. The HRM estimated a higher burn than the Fitbit but, for me, it just created a larger deficit so I'm going with the Fitbit almost exclusively now. I do wear the HRM to check my gym calorie burns every few days. All of these trackers are just estimates anyway so keep that in mind.

I love the Charge HR for a couple of reasons. It does keep me aware and focused on staying active all day. In addition, I love the sleep tracking which I find to be dead on accurate. The HR part of the Charge keeps you aware of your daily heart rate during the day; I believe it's an average for a 24 hour period.

If you want to track your sleep patterns, daily heart rate, and all day activity the Charge HR is great. The Polar HRMs will give you a more accurate picture of steady state exercise.

    Hope this helps.

I love the Charge HR, it will tell you your heart rate at any time, I find the steps are accurate (as well as the heart rate monitor), and the sleep sensor is neat.

It also tells you your resting heart rate for the day.

If you're a fan of the polar, why change? they do make all day activity monitors. I've had 3 Polar HRMs, and they all still work. I had the FT80, love it, went to the loop for the all day tracking, then upgraded to the V800 just because. I don't have a need to monitor my heart rate all day, just when I'm working out. The activity monitors do give you all day calorie burn based on BMI/Activity/training. Plus you still have the added bonus of being able to link with most cardio equipment. The have the A300 (reads heart rate while swimming) the M400 (has GPS) and the V800 (Does everything).
