Net calories burned

When logging my exercise, I have been adjusting the calories burned to account for the calories I would have burned just doing my normal activites. For example, if my HRM or MapMyWalk value is 300 for 30 minutes I have been taking off about 40 calories for the 30 minutes that would have been burned had I not done the exercise. Hope that makes sense. I know it seems small but over the course of a month, those calories add up :)

Anyway I stumbled upon this website that will calculate Net burn for you. Thought I would share in case anyone else could benefit:

the problem is you"re assuming that map my walk and the other site is accurate. Like everything its an estimate it could be over or under. It feels like you're micro managing and not looking at the big picture

Well to be completely detailed lol, I actually take my HRM minus 30%, map my walk applying the net calorie conversion and just for good measure, MFP after the net calorie conversion and take the lowest of all of them. Yes, I am a bit of a numbers geek (I am an IT professional what can I say lol). After a whole bunch of trial and error, I find that these three methods end up producing values that are pretty close so its the best estimate I can muster. In the beginning I was way overestimating calorie burned using only MFP so I settled on this approach and am seeing consistent results.

but yes, everything is going to be an estimate in the end.
