Eating Special K high protein cereal 3 times a week. Would like a lower carb choice. Do not like any oatmeal types...sugestion?

Low-carb cereal? Isn't that sort of an oxymoron?

I thought the same thing. Cereal is generally some sort of grain, so by default it's going to have a pretty respectable carb count... I guess if you want something in the morning that's low on carbs but you don't have to fix, you could try no-sugar-added yogurt?

Yeah, there's not really anything to cereal but carbs. Whether it comes in an earth-toned box insinuating "healthy" vibes or has a cartoon animal on it, the macros are the same.

Another thought: bacon bits? Just fill a bowl with them and eat them like cereal. Yum.

    Cereals are grains....grains have carbs.

For cereal I look for protein and fiber counts. Kashi Go Lean (original) has good numbers on both. Regular Special K has decent protein (and no soy).....so I add something with fiber to the meal. Oatmeal has okay fiber but not enough protein, I typically have a side of Greek yogurt. But oatmeal can be made with milk...that will add protein to the mix.

Is there a medical reason for low carb? Plenty of people lose weight and don't count carbs.

    Good plan. :)

All I could think was eggs instead of cereal, in a bowl with milk.

They say that eating a high-fiber breakfast is supposed to help with weight loss, so I usually do that. It's usually higher in carbs. C'est la vie. :)

Kashi golean has some good cereal with lots of protein and fiber to keep you full. watch which ones you get, some are much higher in calories
bear naked has granola high in protein and fiber
    Nature's Path Optimum
I believe there is a cascade farms? that also have high protein and fiber

Puffed Kamut is like 11g per serving. Flavorless though...

I like chia and oatmeal soaked overnight in yogurt with a bit of frozen fruit.
I also look for protein and fiber counts on my cereal, and Special K is the big loser there. Especially the fiber.
Other favourites include spoon size shredded wheat, cheerios, bran flakes and corn flakes.

The Kashi cereals all break my teeth. No thanks.

Not a low carb cereal, but Kay's Natural Cereal pretty tasty. I use extra protein milk. Mostly a cereal-for-din-cuz-hot. It's packed with protein.

What I'll do for cereal (not sure about carbs though so don't shoot me), is add nuts and berries to a bowl with honey and milk.
