I really need to get on board with weight loss and feel so trapped. I am at an all time high weight and it is really affecting me. My clothes don't fit, I hate how I look and it's affecting my relationships. How the heck do you get the motivation to start. I think about going to the gym almost everyday but just end up sitting on the couch. I feel fat and lazy and want to gain control of my life. Any ideas or advice on how to beat this once and for all !?

Start by logging your food and trying to stick to your calorie goal. Logging your food takes only a handful of minutes.

Eating within your calorie limit will help you lose weight. Exercise will help in how you look after you lose that weight but it really doesn't help in weigh loss.
If you can't motivate yourself to work out, set your weight loss goal to 1 lb/week, weigh your food using a food scale and log everything you eat.

That's all it takes. You can do this.

Hey girl. I know that feeling. It's awful.

For me it wasn't until I started dealing with emotional issues that I was able to confront my weight and eating and sedentariness. For me, my weight and malaise was directly related to issues of sadness and depression that I had swept under the rug (related to loneliness, family issues.)

The problem is the motivation has to come from within you. Most of us finally reached the point where we were willing to do what it takes and then just started doing it. If you ask around, most of us can tell you exactly when that "light switch" moment was. If you would still rather sit on the sofa then you haven't had yours and you aren't quite 'there' yet. It does sound like you're close though.

Perhaps if you sit down and make a list of all of the reasons you want to lose weight and all of the reasons you'd rather not it will help to crystallize your resolve. The other thing to keep in mind is that losing weight doesn't need to be some terrible ordeal where you're eating only rabbit food and plain chicken breasts and spending hours and hours at the gym. You don't need to throw out all of the food in your house and then spend a fortune on organic. Losing weight is simply about eating less calories than you burn each day. Exercise isn't even required. You can keep eating the things that you like, you just eat less of them. You can start slow (in fact, I recommend that) and simply add new "good" habits little by little.

You don't even need to change what you're eating yet. Start by simply logging every single thing you eat and drink all day. That's down to vitamins and chewing gum and anything else that has calories. You'll probably be surprised just how many calories you are eating and the correlation between that and why you were gaining weight should become clear. Then take a brutally honest look at your diary a week or two later and see where you can make some simple changes that will have a big calorie impact. Swap a whole candy bar for a single miniature. Get a small green salad with low calorie dressing instead of a side of fries and then snitch just one or two fries from someone else.

Park at the back of the parking lot instead of finding the closest space. Use the stairs instead of the elevator. Start taking a walk during your breaks at work. Use the bathroom that's at the opposite end of the building. The point is to just start moving.... every little bit helps!

It's really not that hard. As these types of changes get ingrained, look for ways to keep improving.
