I just discovered the "plumcot" which I pronounce plum-quat. It tastes sooooo good and now I only hope plums taste good. Has anyone tried dragon fruit? I hear their good....and is anyone afraid of eating bananas? I am, so much sugar. Fruit sugar overall scares me so if someone can tell me the truth behind fruit and processed sugar, that would be greatly appreciated

No, definitely not scared of bananas. That seems edging toward disordered. Being afraid of foods should be something that concerns you.
Why are you scared of sugar?
The WHO recommends that added sugar (this is not fruit sugar, except in fruit juices, sugar in dairy, or sugar in veggies, although it does include honey and syrup) be limited to 10% (and ideally 5%) of calories, but if you look at their reasoning it is because when people are not monitoring calories eating lots of added sugar is usually associated with eating lots of low nutrient/high calorie foods and fewer nutrient dense foods. Therefore, eating fewer sweets (to simplify) is a good way to avoid gaining weight and have a more balanced diet, for most people in developed societies, but this because of the calories, not anything about the sugar itself. (Indeed, many of the calories in sweet treats actually comes from fat.)
Therefore, if you don't have health issues, are eating the correct number of calories, and are eating a balanced diet, there's no need to worry about sugar. (If you are insulin resistant or pre-diabetic/diabetic, the issue is more carbs in general than simply sugar.)
Fruit is not low nutrient, and thus it is not included in what the WHO is concerned about here. There are no mainstream/credible sources that say one needs to worry about fruit -- this is a ridiculous and unfortunate result of the Fed Up/Taubes fear-mongering.
Obviously, one should not eat so much fruit that one fails to get other things one needs, such as adequate protein, fat, or veggies, or that exceeds appropriate calories.
All that aside, I had dragonfruit in Hawaii earlier this year and loved it, but I've been told it does not travel well. Passionfruit was great too. As for hybrids, my favorite one that I've had is probably the pluot.
(Have you really not had a plum? They are amazing.)0 -
Dragon fruit is such a happy, 80s kind of fruit. I love seeing them!
On the inside, they look like - you know the part of the kiwi that has the little seeds? They look like that, all the way through. Just a bunch of fruit (very similar to kiwi in consistency) with seeds. Not the whole thing.
The taste is bland and very mild. There isn't much taste to them at all. But the mild flavor they do have is one that I don't care for. Whatever it is in melons - that one underlying taste that all melons have in common - that's the only flavor I get from dragon fruit. And I don't like it. If you like melons, you probably wouldn't mind the flavor of the dragon fruit, but I have yet to meet anyone who raves about them. Very bland. Kiwi is much better.
If plumquats are the same as dinosaur eggs (I think they are, but am not sure), I love them. Love, love, love.
I'm not afraid of sugar, but do limit added sugars. I eat fruit every day, sometimes more than any sensible expert would advise. I limit added sugars, but go crazy with my fruits, especially when they're in season.
I'm not afraid of bananas and used to eat them all the time. Now I have an allergy and don't eat them. But if I could, I sure would!!!0 -

On bananas, yes actually. I watched a 17 second video clip (entirely on accident) that showed a banana peel splitting and a giant spider crawling out of the banana. I have severe arachnophobia, haven't bought a banana since.
I don't know much about the chemistry of sugar, but the sugar in fruit is 'naturally occurring' sugar and also comes packaged with fiber, vitamins, phytonutrients, etc. Processed sugar is generally added to foods that contain empty calories and no or little nutritional benefit.
I've been wanting to try breadfruit. There is only one store locally that has it. It's supposed to be like potatoes in a way. One of these days I'll give it a go.
