Vinyasa yoga?

I've been doing vinyasa yoga lately and I'm a bit confused on the calories I am burning. I have a heart rate monitor but lost it (derp derp) so I can't tell how many calories I'm really burning. MFP says yoga burns 300 calories for me but online calculators that specify vinyasa yoga (rather than just regular yoga) says I burn anywhere from 600-800 calories. I'm a big girl and I'm dripping sweat during it (it's not hot yoga, it's just tough holding my big butt up for long periods of time) and I'm often out of breath.

For those of you that have a heart rate monitor and do vinyasa yoga, does it really burn a lot of calories?

I do Vinyasa regularly. I give myself 150-200 calories an hour.

Firstly, an HRM is not a reliable tool to calculate caloric burns during yoga. They are for Steady State Cardio (running, elliptical...etc). Also, being out of breath and sweating have little to do with caloric burns.

Here is a study on Bikram Yoga. Not identical but similar.
    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25141359

5 males and 19 females were measured on a 90 minute class. The calorie burns ranged from 179 on the low side to 478 on the high side. That was a 90 minute class so an hour would burn between 119 and 318.

600-800 seems ridiculously high, but it isn't unusual for various brands of fitness to promise extremely high calorie burn as a marketing tool . . .

I'd stick to the 2-400 calorie range for vinyasa. That seems more reasonable.
