Bad posture or big belly?

I find if I breath in (suck it in) my stomach is flat but when I let it all out or am slouching then it it sticks out. Any ideas ? Bad posture ?

I learned to breathe the other way around -- Breathe in through the belly and out with the belly. :)

Mine is the other way around: when I breathe in it gets big, when I breathe out it gets small.

Yeah I made myself do it when I started running, then when I started taking voice lessons that's how they teach you to breathe anyway so I was a step ahead  It's called abdominal breathing and I've heard there are many benefits.

Back straight and shoulders back is one thing. But, "sucking it in" is belly not posture...

Yes! Vocalists and athletes breathe using the diaphragm
That kind of breathing helps reduces stress too.

Standing up straight will reduce belly bulge, unless you are fat and have a big belly, or you drink too much beer and have become bloated, or you are out of shape (although good posture will help).

"Chin up, chest out, shoulders back, stomach in", that's what my father taught me.

Can you grab your stomach with your hands while sitting and feel a substantial amount of fat? Betcha can.

I'm at a weight now where my stomach is allllmost flat standing. But I have 5lbs of pure fat wrapped around it, so sitting busts the illusion!

Yogis and babies breathe using the diaphragm too!

It's the way we're meant to breathe. Babies, children, and you when asleep breathe this way.

This happens. I was an acting major in college and when I took my first Voice and Diction class, there were people just learning how to breath from the diaphragm. people were dropping left and right. It just like any other muscle, you have to exercise to build its strength.
