why low calorie / low carb?

I usually do small dinners, I only eat 1200 per day usually, until I lose the weight I want to lose.

A small portion of whatever I'm making as my family's "main" entree (meat, pasta, whatever), surrounded by a lot of veggies (salad or cooked veggies). This formula makes it pretty simple.

Depending on how often you workout and HOW you workout, 1200 might be way to little in terms of caloric intake. And also, carbs don't cause fat loss / gain. So there's no reason to go low carb. UNLESS you are told so by a licensed medical professional. IE; a doctor.

These are two of my favorites:

With a lot of vegetables and salsa

    and

    Mexican Crockpot Soup

    Ingredients:
    1 Tbsp olive oil
2 lbs boneless chicken breasts (I used three)
1 ½ cups chopped red onion
    2 chopped red bell peppers
chicken broth – unsalted (amount depends on how soupy you like it)
    ¼ cup chopped cilantro
    1 Tbsp Cumin
2 Tbsp chopped chipotle chile in adobo (or more, depending on how spicy you like it)
6 cloves of garlic, roughly chopped
    2 (28oz) fire roasted tomatoes
1 (4 oz) chopped green chiles, undrained
    2 zucchini, chopped
    Salt and pepper

    Instructions
Heat a large skillet and brown the chicken in the olive oil.
Add everything except the cilantro in the crockpot and stir it up
Cook on low for 4 hours. Shred chicken and zucchini and cook on low for another hour

I do about 50 minutes of cardio and 25 minutes of lifting, besides all the walking I get from my commute to the train to and from work.

I work out 6 days a week. I don't do low card I just try not to eat them so close to bed which might be silly.

love baked fish with steamed veggies; broccoli, edamame, green beans, etc. LOVE any kind of crockpot soup that i can come home to after work. very lowfat/carb depending on how you make them.
my husband and I eat lots of salad too. we are trying to only eat meat a couple times a week so fish and beans are a major part of our dinners right now :)

You should be eating at least half of the calories you burn. This is a good way to get burned out. You racing to the finish line for a reason?

As for not eating carbs before bed, I prefer to eat more protein and fat in the day, then eat more carbs at night. Not for any real reason other than that I like carby snacks. -64 pounds to date.

As for your question, dinner is most frequently a lean meat, potatoes or beans, and a green vegetable. But I eat tacos, hamburgers, stir-fry with rice, and other things that aren't necessarily low-calorie.
