Beach food

I don’t know about you but when I spend a day at the beach I see people digging in their coolers and pulling out items like tuna sandwiches, bologna & cheese sandwiches, chips, cookies, soda, cheese-its. Personally the last thing I want to do sitting in the hot sun (wearing a bathing suit), is eat foods heavy on dairy/mayo/carbs/sugars!

With that said, here is an idea for a great "beach" sandwich...

Chicken, mango & avocado lettuce wraps.

One lettuce cup, 2 oz of cold chicken (or protein of your choice), one quarter mango, one quarter SlimCado, sprinkling of shredded carrot, four raw unsalted almonds, dash of black pepper.

Sorry I don't have the exact measurements but I assume people will measure out their own ingredients based upon their calorie needs or restrictions.

If you are a vegetarian but eat cheese use a weight watchers light string cheese in place of the meat.

Wrap them up in saran wrap, enjoy!

Light and tasty with all healthy and natural ingredients.

Wraps are an awesome idea! Or even just mixing everything up into a sort of salad. My recent fav has been chicken, buffalo sauce, lettuce or celery, & lite ranch. Stick it in a tupperware & you're good!

I just can't stand the thought of mayo and bread when it's 90 degrees out and I'm sitting in the sun!

My issue with the tuna in the 90 degrees is how long has that mayo been at an un-safe food temperature? Who wants food poisoning at the beach? Yuck.

I'd steal a few sealed packages from the gas station I stopped at on my way to the beach. Build it there. And maybe some relish packets of they had em too.

Sounds yummy but what is SlimCado?!
And I always bring soft cooler with icepack to the beach to keep things like my tuna wrap cold.

Haha! I love doing stuff like that too!
I don't eat much but trust me I could out-eat just about anyone I know. People are always shocked when I order something big off the menu

It's a giant avocado from Florida. Has less fat/calories of a regular avocado.

Well, you did say cooler, which means to me is that there is ice in it, which means it being kept cold.

thanks, but I will stick to bud lights and cheeseburgers for my beach days...

and what is the point of your opening paragraph? Are you saying that your wrap is superior to a tuna sandwich and chips?

Agree. We go to San Diego fairly often, and we have fish tacos 2-3x a trip. We have our favorite spots, but always on the lookout for more :)

I live in Florida about 12 minutes from the beach. Love some sandwiches out of the cooler with some parmesan cheeze its and a huge water. Or a big italian sub from Publix with some cheddar and sour cream potato chips. Or cold ribeye subs with provolone and mayo and potato salad.

Spending a day on the beach burns a lot of calories, that has been my experience anyway. All the walking, swimming, boarding, frisbee and general playing makes it time for some 'fun' food. Chicken, avocados and mangos are 'everyday' food. Half the fun of the beach is the food. B)

If there is a place to buy salad, that's my favorite...and fruit. Crisp, cold, and full of water. That's what I want when I'm out in the sun. :)

We bring a cooler with white wine, shrimp/lemon/cocktail sauce, some wonderful cheeses and crackers. For dessert we have grapes.
After our beach day we go to a seafood restaurant and eat our favorites!
I love hot summer days at the beach!

Where I live alcohol and glass aren't allowed. Beach patrol will come up and take your cups and see what's in them. Not worth the trouble. When I was young we used to have big bonfires on the beach and parties, we'd even sleep on the beach after. Now the beach closes at night, no one is allowed down there, no fires, no fun at night. It's completely regulated.

You live in Florida but you still go to tourist beaches? Yikes. Anyway, I am a native and haven't heard of anyone examining cups. We had some Mexican cokes at one of the Tampa Bay beaches and were told to take them to our car because of the glass. Completely reasonable.

I get that the park lands have bathrooms and other amenities, but gimme a pull-off with a worn-down footpath over a well-manicured boardwalk any day. Maybe a few dedicated surfers or people who live down the street, but no folks to steal your beer (a thing that has happened to me at Cocoa Beach/Lori Wilson Park).

To the OP, my favorite food thing I've ever seen happen at a beach was someone at Spessard Holland getting pizza delivered. They win IMO.

We rarely go to the beach for more than 4 hours on the weekend. Usually Quest bars and booze are all we take. Sometimes mid-week we'll pick up take-out and head out for dinner and a glass of wine at sunset. (We drive out on the beach.)

I'm on the east coast and they are all tourist beaches within an hour drive of where I live. We can still drive on portions of the beach here but that is being slowly taken away. Yes, they are pretty strict about alcohol. We have beach patrol in jeeps, on jet skis, on bikes, they are everywhere.

Oh, that sucks. I've heard of people having to leave their beer behind, but never having their cups checked. But I don't tend to go to beaches/inlets that have boat ramps and I know some places have DUI checkpoints.

I don't think people should be able to drive onto the beach. I heard about someone running over a bunch of turtles one night fairly recently, not to mention all the people who have been killed or maimed (occasionally by beach patrol). I'm so glad it's not allowed in my county.

I'm in Brevard and there are non-tourist beaches here. You just have to keep your eyes out as you're driving along the coast--if you see someone parked on the shoulder, or if you see a business parking lot, that's your beach.

To keep it on topic, I don't like eating at the beach. Too much sand and seagulls. But I'm starving as soon as I leave and I don't care how mayonnaisey or carby something is, just hand it over.
