I think people are missing the point she has a 7yo who just wants cotton candy and chocolate fountain of course she's going to Golden Corral. Besides you cant get much more of the American experience that ol' GC. I suggest topping it off with a shopping trip to Wal-Mart.

Anyways, if I was you I'd just splurge and eat the dessert. Nothing wrong with having a meal of dessert. Or you can go superior mode and make the biggest salad of your life piled with all the raw veggies.

Lol we have Walmart stores but they did close all the Targets here recently, maybe I'll stop there on our way back home.

i don't think anyone came to this thread with unrealistic expectations regarding a chain buffet restaurant. the OP asked a simple question, and all the hipster foodie folks piled on to make sure we all knew how disgusting they thought GC was. message received. we get it. there's something in the world that causes you distress.

as some of the more level-headed folks pointed out, almost all the GC food is in the database and easily logged.

i travel...a lot. and i have to eat on the road...a lot. and often, i'm faced with the choice of whether to stop at GC or settle for a baconator/big mac/whopper/etc., and if i get to make that choice, i'll choose GC every time. same thing with Cracker Barrel. it's road food. there's not gonna be a Zagat rating on Yelp, and if you choose wisely, you can leave relatively satisfied without overdosing on crappy calories.

maybe, in the grand scheme of things, it's a choice akin to deciding which one of the ladies at the nursing home you invite to the prom, but it's not the worst possible choice you could make.

and...she has kids. and her kids want to go to GC. cut her a break.

Um, OP knew nothing about GC but said she was looking for "cool restaurants' while on vacation. GC is about as
"cool" as McD's or Waffle House. It's the very epitome of cheap eats, both in price and quality, and so it hardly qualifies to most people as a vacation destination. What's wrong with telling her this? OP came to this thread seeking opinions while having none of her own so really there's no need to "cut her a break."

I wish some people could read before posting, I never said I was looking for "cool restaurants"....chill

Golden Corral gives me a cleanse for the rest of the night. I would skip it.
Please do not spend any vacation time at Golden Corral. Literally almost anything would be better.

    both of these are accurate.

if she wants a chocolate fountain- go to a real place- like the Melting pot or something where they do real chocolate (although they are over priced and oiy- it's mediocre) it's still worlds above Golden Corral.

Never heard of this place is it 1- appropriate for kids and 2- in Washington state? If it's oiy mediocre and pricey then I don't see the point

I agree with others, definitely wouldn't be my favorite, but definitely get that kids could get whatever they wanted.

Unfortunately, I haven't eaten there in years, but considering it was buffet, I didn't remember the food being that bad taste-wise. Calorie-wise, no clue because I didn't care at the time (and I was gaining around that time because of it).

Someone else mentioned they have most of the entries in the database, and their menu is online. I'd look for a few things that sound good, pre log them, and then have an idea of what you want going in. Make sure you have a few items to sub in just in case they don't have a particular item that night. Like I will have x or y for my protein and u or v as a side dish along with the salad bar; q might work for dessert if I'm still hungry. Or whatever.

Thank you to everyone who was able to stay on topic and give suggestions. It's funny someone days ago complained while on vacation that all the food around them messed with their calorie goals, that they couldn't find anything besides crap and they have a crabby daughter etc. She received crap and was told to live a little. I'm doing exactly that. Well you're damned if you do damned if you don't. Relax people I don't know how where I eat one time affects anyone else but me. Don't worry I'm not one of those people who will be coming back after my vacation asking why I gained 10 lbs....and then asking if it's fat or water weight....

I don't know about Washington, but IMO it's not a place kids would enjoy. Well, most kids. Surely people here will say, "You're wrong! My kids love it! It's their favorite restaurant!" But most children, given the choice between a dark, boring (to them) fondue restaurant and the colorful-plated, loud, busy Golden Corral with it's dessert buffet, cotton candy and flowing chocolate fountain...they'll pick the Golden Corral.

If you're into fondue, the Fondue Pot is probably great. I'm not, so it was just okay. Fun once, but not something I'm dying to do again. They had good salads, though. :)

Something about chocolate fountains gives me the heebie jeebsies. Although I might get down with the cotton candy.
