My husband has recently been diagnosed with high bp and diabetes. He is on meds for both, and he has been told to lower sodium and carbohydrate intake. We struggle to find alternatives and balance the macronutrients. What have you MFP users found to be helpful? Any food recommendations?

as sodium goes, more whole foods, whole foods, and whole foods....prepare meals and such from scratch, whole food ingredients. Processed food, restaurant food, etc is loaded with sodium.

I have hypertension and stick to primarily whole foods and minimally processed foods...I pay close attention to sodium on the labels.

I'd see if he could get referred to a dietitian for the diabetes. Definitely lots of veg though...and whole grains are going to be a better carb source than things like pasta, white rice, etc.
