Does swimming help recovery?

I've heard that a casual swim can help to ease muscle aches from weight lifting and aid recovery. Is this correct?

    I don't think it's prescriptive

I'd ensure you stretched, ate adequate protein, ice packs / heat if required

but if you like to swim it can be a gentle form of exercise (or not) and is kind to joints

For me, it helps immensly. I swim 5 days a week and find that a good swim stretches out my body and warms up my muscles. Jump in and see how your body reacts, it can't hurt, right?

@clafairy1984 - I think you should try this and report back.

    Any excuse to swim!

Swimming is wonderful for muscle aches. It's also nice for tired, achy feet (sorta the same thing.) If I have a long day on my feet, I come home and soak them in the pool and all is well.

But if you push hard in the pool, you can end up with the same kind of muscle aches you get from lifting weights. At least, I can. And just like with the lifting, it can get a little more achy the next morning.

So, a nice, easy, relaxing swim might be a better idea than pushing.

Try it and let us know how it works out for you! :)
