Protein To lose weight

my husband is taking isopure to try to build muscle, I'm trying to lose weight I read all the nutrition facts on the isopure tube and is low carb and 210 calories, 50 grams of protein. Which works for him, my question is would it work for me as well for a meal replacement??? I mostly run and turbo fire DVDs

    Don't use meal replacements unless you're willing to do it FOR LIFE. Why? Because not sustaining whatever eating lifestyle you choose, will usually result in weight regain.
    Weight loss comes down to CICO. You don't even need exercise to achieve it.

    I struggle to get a lot of protein in my diet because I'm vegetarian, so I have a protein shake for breakfast and one after the gym too which sometimes coincides with lunch. It's good for me because I have a tendency to obsess over what food I'm going to eat once I start trying to watch my calories, but I could easily see myself continuing to have one for breakfast for life (I never even considered that, @ninerbuff! But I've always struggled with protein so I probably will keep this up forever). Having a protein shake for breakfast every day helps take the thought process out of it so it helps me stay on track and it keeps me full until lunch time. If I work out in the late morning/ early afternoon, I have a protein shake along with something else, like a yogurt and some fruit (that's what I had today) or a wrap or a salad for lunch.

    It really depends on you as a person. Would your bf let you use his to give it a test run for a week?

    I only use protein powder as a supplement to a meal. I add it to my smoothie and just in the summer to supplement protein since I eat eggs and ham in the winter...

    I wouldn't use it as a meal replacement tho...

    Why not eat eggs, egg whites, tuna, chicken/turkey breast, bacon, cheeese, etc with protein up to 210 calories like isopure and actually get to eat food rather than drink a shake. Losing weight is about eating less calories than you burn so whether it comes from a 210 calorie protein shake or 210 calories from real food it doesnt matter. Now if you really like the protein shake over real food then have it. Eat what you like up to your calorie limit.

    Protein powders don't build muscle, make you gain weight or help you lose weight. They supplement an area of your diet that lacks. No different than a multivitamin.

    While, I am all for a protein shake for convenience/post workout snack, if you are struggling a lot with getting protein, it might be beneficial to address that issue too. Here is a good thread on protein sources.

    There is great protein in seeds and nuts and beans. When you eat whole foods you also get micronutrients that you might miss from a manufactured powder.

    Drinking protein shakes are for supplementing when you're not getting enough protein, not for losing weight. Caloric deficit is necessary for losing weight.

    Ah, yeah. I didn't read the OP properly! I use protein shakes because I don't get nearly enough protein otherwise, I don't do it specifically to lose weight. I have lost weight but that's not because I drink protein shakes, it's because I eat less calories than I burn.
