How many carbs, protein, fat, calcium, etc

I've been googling and I can't seem to find the answer to this because I get bombarded with macro and calories calculators.

What I want to know is how do scientists know how much of each macro we need? Or micro? If scientists know how much of what we need on a daily basis then can it still be healthy for those who change their macros to fit their own preference?

I hope this is worded right. Thanks in advance.

Unless you're at some kind of extreme - <15% of any macro, or extremely active, or etc - it really doesn't matter much.

    Go forth and prosper!

Without a huge battery of tests on you personally, it is only an estimate.

But I mean where does the estimate come from? Like did they just pull it out of nowhere? Did they cut open a stomach and intestines? Or did they analyze blood? Etc....like what told them that we needed so and so of this or that?

Doctors observe people eating no protein emaciate to nothing. Conclusion: eating "some" protein is a good idea.

Doctors observe that eating no fat results in various negative health outcomes. Conclusion: eating "some" fat is a good idea.

    Etc. Etc. Etc.
