Should I take a break?

Ok, so I've been counting calories since January. I've lost about 13 lbs. I haven't been 100% consistent with logging my food due to vacations, birthdays, and the like which has caused the weight to go up and down. Seeing this is very discouraging and it's really hard to get back on the wagon when it seems like I keep getting knocked off.

Anyway, so I need to lose these last 10 lbs. or so. I do really great for a few days, then I start getting cravings (usually salt), and I totally screw up and BINGE the crap out of a whole can of Pringles or 1-2 bowls of cereal. Then that causes me to get discouraged and lose motivation. Notice a cycle?

Should I give myself a break and resume counting calories after a month or so?

Are you overly depriving yourself on calories and what you're allowing yourself to eat? If yes, that's probably what's causing the cravings and subsequent binging. Rather than taking a complete break maybe just try relaxing and choosing to lose a bit more slowly which will give you some more calories to eat each day. Use those calories to have a small bag of chips or a measured one ounce portion of Pringles or anything else you like. Doing that should reduce the cravings and the binge cycles.
