I have mitral valve prolapse and I have noticed that certain foods or ingredients make my heart palpitate. I've noticed sugar and caffeine so far. Does anyone else have MVP and know of any other ingredients they are hypersensitive to?

This is something you need to seek medical advice from, from a PROFESSIONAL. Don't *kitten* around with your heart.

This is something your specialist should have covered extensively with you. :S If they didn't seek a new one yesterday

This is the basic list. http://mvpresource.com/foods-to-avoid-with-mitral-valve-prolapse/
My brother has it. I have bicuspid and find certain preservatives make me race. MSG is the worst culprit for me, so it's hard to eat out sometimes. I got brussel sprouts in a very expensive steak restaurant and they used it. I usually only ask at Asian restaurants.

I have had a heart murmur and Mitral Valve Prolapse my entire adult life. It has never caused any complications for me. I run and bike and do it faster than most.

I was diagnosed with a heart murmur at age 23 and had the ultrasound at age 50 which clearly showed the prolapse.

This is the first I have read of palpitations or any other issues.

Thanks for the link, I will have to look at it later because the web filter at work is blocking the page.

@beemerphile1 I've had diagnosis since 13, and have a different issue than you. I am also super sensitive with my body, so I feel it after I have MSG. I can't sleep and my heart is over 90 resting. Normal for me is 60s. Just strange. I am fine with all the things on the list though. I would call it a day if I couldn't have chocolate :)

The same thing happens with me and caffeine. Resting heart rate is 65 and when I have caffeine or even sometimes just randomly throughout the day my heart will palpitate up to 165.

Your cardiologist should be able to give you a list of foods that affect these patients.
