I saw this mentioned somewhere. I suppose its the continuence of caloric burn after a workout?
Is it real, how long does it last, how do I get some?

From what I've heard, the effects are very minimal. Like, no point in keeping track of it minimal. But I'm no expert. Don't get hung up on 5 calories here and ten calories there. Just focus on what your burn while you exercise, and remember that lots of gym equipment and some entries on MFP can overestimate what you burn.

    yeah

it's one of those muddying the waters, there's some truth in it but not enough to make a huge difference, don't major in the minors factoids that tabloids like to pick up on to sell papers

.. machine and MFP database burns - you're best to only log 50% of the calories and then check your weight loss over 6-8 weeks against targeted weight loss and adjust from there .. because they tend to be wildly overestimated for many and your body is the best actual calculator

Afterburn only occurs after intense exercise as the body burns additional calories replenishing oxygen resources. It can elevate your metabolism for up to two days, over which time you may burn an additional 150 to 350 calories per day (350 is rare). So, roughly, a 10% increase in metabolism. It seems to be a type of healing process. After putting your body through torture, it has to recover and it takes energy to do that.

I'm going with Lyle on this one...

...the EPOC doesn’t amount to jack for any realistic amount of activity.

I second this. It sounds a bit far-fetched.
