Pre and Post Workout Foods

Hello all -

I have been working with a personal trainer for a little over a month now and she's also helping me with nutrition. I have the post workout foods figured out - the 4:1 carb/protein ratio is what I have been using. I am curious, however, what should I be having before I do 30-50 minutes of cardio first thing in the morning? And after? Prior to one of my training sessions, my trainer has me have a protein shake about an hour before. She told me I could do cardio first thing in the morning on an empty stomach if I eat within an hour or so of waking up. Thoughts?

Also, I am working on reducing my overall weight and building lean muscle mass.

Thanks!

It's personal preference and it doesn't particularly matter.

I prefer to eat carbs in the morning because that's just a preference.

I like to eat my protein and whatever else later on in the day, that's just a preference.
