can you give me ideas?

I gained i think like 20 lbs or so since June... i think it started actually January 2009, because I was laid off until about 5 weeks ago! I also was uprooted from AZ to MD in December, so that really has not helped! Back home, I used to ride (bicycle) almost every day for an hour (5-10 miles a day) and if not that, work out at the gym.
Right now, I would like to focus on losing 5-10 lbs, and then go from there. I started working out again as of Sunday. I have been working out, just not consistently like I used to. I drink 1 liter of water a day, and stay away from soda. If I do have something, it is usually just 1 can, or if it's not that, I drink unsweetened iced tea.
So, can you look at my food log and give me ideas? Also, I have been walking on my lunch break for 1/2 hr and walk about 3/4 mile. I guess i should start by cutting out the bagel and eating cereal? The problem with me, is that I can get bored pretty quick with eating at work or bringing my lunch because it is always the same!

I cut out dairy from my diet and lost 22 lbs in a month with moderate exercise and no calorie counting. My acne (of 10 years) cleared up and I felt great. I'm now at 150 lbs and went vegan too.
Start small. Cut out gluten and or dairy for 30 days and see how you feel. Neither one of those contribute to our health. I challenge you. If you want to challenge me back, I'm game.0 -
Lower your intake of starchy carbs and fats, then increase protein & fiber intake! Carbs are sneaky! Have them but in moderation and in the early portion of your day, like before 3pm. For dinner, try to eat a lean protein and plenty of veggies, leafy green ones are best!

I get bored of the same food over and over again.
I'm always online researching healthy recipes.
Um, I have started having Almond milk, oats and a banana for breakfast.
Or scrambled egg whites wrapped up in a whole wheat tortilla with hot sauce. (I adore hot sauce)
There is this site I like called skinnytaste.com that has some healthy and tasty recipes.
I totally had more ideas when I first looked at your post but now my brain has froze. Lol, sorry.

Did you gain that 20 pounds in a year? My suggestion is that you up your protein intake, eat more calories earlier (what's the saying, eat like a king at breakfast, a [someone in the middle] at lunch, and a pauper at dinner?) Also, if you're doing ANY exercise, you're starving yourself! Make sure you eat at *least* 1200 calories daily, and eat at least most of your exercise calories.
I'd also add in fruits, veggies and cut out the sandwiches. I LOVE carbs. LOVE them. But they can do a lot to slow/stop your weight loss, especially if they are a good portion of your diet (and they're not coming from fruits and vegetables).
Those are my thoughts. But I'm (hopefully getting out of a) plateauing ... so certainly don't take my word as gospel0 -
Hmmmmm... Right off the top of my head...
1. Never dip below 1,200 cals.
2. Fill out your meals with more veggies.
3. Make sure your carbs are whole grain. Read labels and look for the words "whole grain".
4. Ditch the Ding Dongs!
5. Ditch the Slimfast bars. Eat REAL food.
6. Overall, your sodium isn't awful, but you may want to check it occasionally. If you hit the orange button on your food diary, there it is.
7. Consider eating larger breakfasts (over 300 cals, good protein source) to avoid eating more later in the day.
8. Don't be afraid to eat more protein overall.
Following this kind of thinking helped me take off weight. Also, you need to exercise, even if it's just a 30 minute walk every other day.

Hmmm.. I guess it's the calorie thing? I thought if you eat under, that is a good thing? So, if I have a 1200 goal, but exercise and burn 200, am I supposed to eat an additional 200 calories, which makes it 1400?
I think I have gained 20 since Jan 2009, then again, I get paranoid with the scale, lol!

May I suggest to watch the lunch meat they have tons of sodium. You need to be eating more slow carbs like vegetables and fruits. I find that if I eat 4 oz. of protein, 1/2 cup of fast carbs (rice, potatoe), and 1 cup slow carbs veggies that I lose at least 1-2 lbs. a week. Hope this helps:flowerforyou:0

Yeah, I totally agree. I have stopped eating it completely. Instead, I eat grilled meats, low sodium tuna, pre-cooked frozen shrimp, etc. I have a good non-stick skillet (which I NEVER cook on higher than medium heat), and it just takes a few minutes to throw some of my own seasonings on chicken and such. Low sodium and makes fantastic sandwiches, salads, etc.0
