"Coaches"

I wonder how many people here are coaches.
The reason I'm asking is that I'm trying to stay away from the "coaching and motivational groups that promise not to insist you buy our products" type people.
Recently I've added someone who's been sending me long messages that are a little generic and don't really seem tailored to any of my replies I've sent her back. The last one invited me to her FB group that helps motivate and support my journey. I'm also being told I don't need to buy any of the products and they won't push them on me. I'm fairly certain this group is full of women with motivational stories and tips like: "get healthy fats from avocados and almonds" "add lime and a handful of strawberries to some kale for a healthy salad, BAM" and other such type memes.
I took a peek at her diary and sure enough theres some Shakology and 21 day fix cardio on there. I'm going to unfriend her because I don't really want to be a part of this and wondered if anyone else is getting these kind of friends as well.

I pick and choose my friends here VERY carefully, and have never had a friend like that, but have seen lots of them in the forums. I would delete her.

I don't add them and they message me anyway. LOL. I could honestly teach most of them a thing or two.

Just block them. I wish MFP had a way to report users who message you.

I think Beachbody tells these people that if they advertise on fitness sites, they'll sell lots and lots of that crap. I feel badly for the people who got suckered and are trying to recoup their losses, but trying to sucker others doesn't sit well with me,

I know a lot of people on the beach body band wagon and they are out to make some money obviously, it's part of having a job. I don't look down on them for believing something is working for them. If you see results, of course you're going to want to help other people do the same. That being said, you should always watch out for people who are ONLY out to make a quick buck and aren't interested in your personal health or fitness goals. Just have to be more careful with who you add.

Maybe I'm a bit jaded, but I pretty much assume that anyone who makes a strong case for a product here or recommends any of the MLM or cleanse products is making money off of it.

I friended someone who I found out was a Beach Body coach. I noticed that on the news feed this person kept asking people to join their FB page and fitness challenges; I directly asked if they were a BB coach but got no answer so I did a bit of exploring on their sites and sure enough they were. I sent a polite message that I wasn't interested and she assured me there would be no pressure to buy. I unfriended her because I hate all that MLM stuff.

They do. Just hit reply to the message and then replace a moderators name. I reported someone who was not on my friends list who sent me that type of meesage, which had apparently been sent to other people. You can also block them.

I love a lot of the beachbody workouts, but run for the hills whenever I hear the word "coach" - as they are nothing but salespeople for overpriced MLM products. There are a few "coaches" that are actually trained as PT's, but the fact that they claim that you can't lose weight/get fit/build muscle of survive without their supplements makes me doubt their other qualifications.....

I cant tell you how many coaches send me messages, like they dont even realize that i am a mod. Its like, do they even internet?

All because i do Beachbody workouts. On a side note, i have met a few good coaches who have never asked me to join their group or challenges. And if i buy a bb products, that is who i use lol.

    Fine, I'll reluctantly accept it.

Ooh, I didn't know the mod trick. I always just blocked them.

I have yet to have a BB coach try to add me (this is not an invitation). I just get the odd message about FB groups or offering me assistance.

They shouldn't be doing that. It is one thing to PM someone with advice. I do that when someone's thread has blown up and I want to make sure they have a chance to read it, but openly trying to recruit people for beachbody is wrong. The same goes for Plexus or Herbalife.

Those messages are against MFP policies and it should be report. Use the "Flag" icon at the bottom left of the message and do so.
Here is the text from MFP policy

    No Advertising, Self-Promotion, or Fund-Raising
    a) You may not post any links or mentions of other services, websites, or businesses from which you or an associate might benefit financially or otherwise. This includes, but is not limited to; posts that contain links to offsite blog posts and social media. You also may not solicit off-Forum contact from which you might benefit, e.g. "message me for more info", “I can get you free samples”, etc.
    b) Requests or solicitations for donations are also not allowed. This includes requesting contributions to “pooled fund” competitions, requests for votes in any venue (online contests, etc.), and even requests for charitable contributions. As you can imagine, we have a lot of people who would like to raise money for worthy causes through the site. As much as we'd like to support these causes, if we were to allow requests for donations, the forums would quickly become full of such requests which would take away from the main purpose of the forums - to support one another.
    c) Posts or messages to members promoting websites that compete with MyFitnessPal are also prohibited.

Beachbody coaches and the like tend to see MFP like shooting fish in a barrel. An easy mark for people trying to lose weight and potentially open to sales. They sucker you in with 'free' challenges and motivational pages. It's really unethical.

     No you don't!

I've never got a message from someone trying to sell me something. But I have had some strange ones with only 1 sentence asking:

"How can I stop biting my nails"

    OR

    "Do you low carb"

    OR

"If I come to Australia, can you show me around"

The messages above, weren't from people on my friends list. They were just random internet strangers.
