so kinda feel like an idiot here but I've been counting here for awhile now but not paying attention to macros. Do the majority of you focus on just calories or just macros or both?? I usually plan my days meals before so I wonder how that'd work? Hmmm

I stay within my calories and try to hit my fat/protein goals. If you aim for those and then work carbs in around, you should be fine.

For weight loss I focus on calories first.
Macros are second. I try to hit a certain amount of protein and fat, carbs fill in the rest.

I focus on macros now, but I didn't worry about macros other than protein for quite a while.

Focusing on macros, if your deficit is appropriate, automatically means you're also taking care of the calories part, since calories come from the macros.

I focus on calories and the micros that I'm low on. I try to keep my fat down, but otherwise, the macros kind of fall where they fall. It usually ends up being high-carb. Lots if fruits and veggies will get you high-carb. I can live with that.

Some people go high-fat. A lot of people go high-protein. Everyone is different.

Your macros directly contribute to your calories, so you end up focusing on both. Eating at a deficit and getting enough protein are both way up there on the priority list for me.

I'm pretty lax with fat and carbs as long as I'm still meeting my calories. BUT I notice that I get cravings if I have too many low carb days in a row, so sometimes I'll deliberately have a high carb/low fat day (everyday is high protein!).

In the beginning focusing on calories seems like a good idea. Keep it simple.

For me I mainly focus on protein and the rest just seems to be what they are.

I seem to always be under on fat and I am not sure about carbs, probably over and under on different days.

When I was watching my blood sugars I balanced my macros. When I was losing weight I was watching my calories. And when my intake was very low, I made sure I was getting enough protein.

Balancing my macros is sheer habit now after decades of training and balancing my plate. For calories I take that plate and double check the portion sizes.
