I am new here and I am looking forward to knowing others who struggle and have success. I am an avid Facebook user and I hope this community will help me stay strong and accountable. I have just begun my 6 months preparation for bariatric Surgery in January. I hope to lose 60 pounds by then so I will feel better and have a smaller liver. I am currently 385 pounds and 5" 11'.

It is hard when you have a lot of weight to lose. It helps to break things down into smaller, more attainable goals. 5 minutes of walking is better than no minutes of walking. Celebrate every five pounds of weight loss rather than worrying about the 60. You are making a permanent lifestyle change, not going on a diet-- focus on eating high quality food that tastes good. I really like Brian Wasnick's Mindless Eating and Slim by Design which help you change your environment in simple ways to make it easier to eat less. Several things that have really helped me are religiously recording EVERYTHING I eat on MFP (and working hard to stay within my calorie goal); eating slowly, enjoying every bite (putting down your fork between bites and taking sips of water between bites help) and asking myself if each bite of food I eat and trying to find easy ways to be more active (like taking the long way down the train platform.) Best of luck with your journey and feel free to add me as a friend.0

Wish you luck hun. I was due to have gastric bypass, and breast reduction surgery 3 months ago. I backed out of it. I decided I can do it on my own. I believe it's a struggle no matter what path you take. The few friends i have that had gastric bypass begged me not to do it. "All 3 of them are always sick" so they encourage me to do it the old fashioned way. I still have to do the breast reduction though. My doctor is so thrilled about me sticking with my word on losing weight and not doing the bypass. She calls me weekly for my pain management, and to find out what i have lost for the week. She is awesomeness. I finally reached under 200 today. 198 pounds to be exact. 60 more pounds to go until I have surgery. My doctor wants me to do the reduction surgery now, but she's scared it will hinder my momentum. So we both agreed reduction happens when I hit my goal weight. I'm in tons of pain when I exercise. My back is on fire. I cry, i lay down in people's yards when i walk I'm in so much pain. I wait 15 minutes and keep going until I'm in pain again.0

Nothing specific, just different choices and cutting out sugar. I get to choose my goals and they help tweak them. I'm supposed to be on a 2,000 calorie diet, but I thought that was too low. Now that I don't eat sugar, I don't want anything else and I have trouble making myself eat. I average 1,000 calories lately.0 -
Oh my goodness; you are an inspiration! I have so little to complain about with my fibromyalgia compared to your back. I would love to follow your path. I told my doctors I would prefer not to have the surgery but I've lost 100 lbs and gained back 200 twice now. I don't trust myself for a lifelong change. Perhaps this is what I need to motivate me though because a friend had surgery 3 days adago and he can't eat or drink anything because of the nausea and they won't let him go home. I do better on a calorie diet and feel the healthiest. I have a slow metabolism and really can't handle very many calories. I hope you find some relief soon and give yourself some serious kudo's for being so persevering.0
