Does it help to cut out ALL cokes & only water?

You'll cut down on a crap load of calories swapping coke for water. Of course, depending on how much coke you drink on a daily basis. ..0

You can always drink just diet coke, or have a regular coke in moderation because of calories. I've drank diet soda the whole time I've lost weight, down 24lbs.0

Coke has about zero nutritional content and loads of calories. If you are trying to lose weight, you will do better by restricting yourself to calories that also provide nutritional benefit. Water is a better thirst quencher anyhow.0

Well naturally I would say yes because there's nothing good for you about coke. However enjoying one here and there like one would enjoy a beer, I see it no different than enjoying cake or ice cream occasionally. I'm not a pop drinker but sometimes love a mini coke...
My husband can easily become addicted to Pepsi. He'll have 4-6 on a given day if it's in the house. That's a ton of sugar,calories and carbs!! It makes me sick to think about it but I've seen how hard it is for him to avoid the cravings. Now he drinks bottled water and tea and tries to keep pop for special occasions-out to eat or pizza night etc. and I don't buy it anymore!!0 -
Depends on if the calories are worth it to you or not. I don't know how many you're allotted, but if you can fit one within your calories for the day, enjoy one. Soda will not hinder your weight loss unless you're not remaining in a deficit by drinking them. There are benefits to drinking water, but weight loss comes from being in a deficit (no matter what you're consuming barring medical conditions).
I'd also like to add, do not waste your coins or soda. I have great balance and have never had a cavity, even drinking soda at a moderate amount (maybe 36-48oz a week).
Diet is also an option if you're trying to save calories. Enjoy!0 -
I still have Cherry Coke, but in moderation, and I have been losing weight. I used to drink at least 2 a day. Even worse I had access to the fountain kind. Now I only have 1 a day a few times a week if I have the extra calories. I could probably have it more often if I changed to diet/zero but I don't care for the taste as much. So instead I drink tea if my calorie goal does not allow a pop but I want to drink sometime besides water.0

It's easier to reduce your calories when you're drinking fewer of them.0

If you can cut out all of your liquid calories it helps a lot because you can eat more which for most people leads to feeling more satisfied and less hungry. But by no means do you have to do that. I cut out sugared drinks from my diet about 5 years ago and it's been a huge help even in my failed diet attempts, I've never sprang back up to the 250 i once was.
If you can just swap all of your soda with diet soda then there's nothing wrong with that.0 -
The pop gives you nothing that you need and gives you things you don't. For every 100 calories of that stuff you drink, it's 100 calories less of foods that will nourish you that you can eat.
Drink water, feel better and eat more food. That's my advice. Take it or leave it.0 -
it's all I used to drink. seriously was so addicted to it. I haven't had any in a very long time. I only drink water and my one coffee in the morning. It does take a while, but you can do it. I don't eat artificial sweeteners anymore either, so diet coke was out of the question. I keep asking myself WHY I was drinking it? what purpose?
I'll have a sangria or a glass a wine here or there ( maybe one or 2 a month?). I keep all calories logged.
It is really up to you what you want your diet to look like.
I used to hate water..
You get used to it, and it starts not "tasting" so bad.
I tried a small sip of coke about a month ago. It was horrible. Too sweet and tasted of just chemicals.. I have no idea now how I ever drank it.

Depends on what your goal is. If you want to lose weight, switch to diet sodas. If you want to be healthy, cut out all soda.0

This--or switching it with diet coke or unsweetened iced tea or any other very low calorie beverage.
I am one of those who hate drinking calories, as I find food so much more satisfying and don't enjoy any beverage enough to want to spend calories on it (the occasional glass of wine or beer would be the exception if I still drank alcohol, though).0 -

Actually no. I do wish people on this forum would stop talking in absolutes, It gives you water which you need and it gives you sugar which the body also needs. However not the best source of these things but if you enjoy it and have no problems controlling your consumption have one occasionally within your calorie goals.0 -

Drop a coin in water or vinegar. Put baking soda in vinegar. They're all just chemical reactions. I'm not saying Coke is healthy, but watching chemicals react isn't something to be afraid of.
If you're going to drink a coke or any other soda, swish your mouth with water after and your teeth will thank you! (9 root canals due to unlimited soda while working at a gas station, not to mention the unbelievable amount of calories I was drinking)0 -
Help with what? If you mean weight loss and you are talking sugar sweetened coki, then yes, it will help as long as you don't replace the coke calories with something else.
But I have become pretty convinced that soda in general, and especially cola, is unhealthy to consume on a regular basis. I have relatives with various medical problems that have been advised to avoid soda. I don't know if it actually causes any medical problems, but it sure does seem to make a variety of thing worse.0 -

The argument that "Coke is corrosive so therefore we mustn't drink it" makes as much sense as the analogy that I used with the water. It is an argument that targets laymen with a scary mental image to convince them to avoid the product. It's not fair to people who are not as knowledgeable in chemistry, and it assumes the audience is uneducated. Which is pretty insulting.
What about lemons/limes/grapefruit/vinegar? Should we not consume those acidic foods either?

That corrosive stomach acid is extremely damaging to other parts of your body as well. It's only useful and benign if it stays where it belongs. It would destroy your teeth with regular exposure.0 -
I have a few sips with dinner most nights. I prefer to eat my calories in general, but I also enjoy coke. I've lost plenty of weight doing just that.
So it's really a personal choice.0 -

So do you think that Coke comes out of the stomach and into the intestines completely unscathed and in the same state that it was in when it went into your mouth, therefore wreaking havoc on other parts of your body?
It's no more damaging to your teeth than any other acidic food - with good dental hygiene and a bit of moderation, you will be just fine to consume Coke on occasion within your goals.
I'd switch to diet, though, because I don't like to drink my calories (unless it's beer).0
