I have asthma issues. They have gotten real bad these past few years. It scares me. I need to get in shape and get this excess weight off. I want to someday be able to run and breathe.

Weight loss doesn't require any exercise, just a calorie reduction.

Try doing lower heart rate exercises, like walking, and strength training.

Talk with your doctor. I also have asthma. I exercise every day. There are great meds and things you can do with your house to help! No, you don't have to exercise to lose weight; but it sure helps me feel better.

Asthma is a disease of restriction, and being overweight also causes breathing restriction. See your doctor for some help with the asthma - there are some great new medications on the market for treating it. Then get to work losing the weight (which is about calorie deficit, not exercise). Once you've lost weight, you will find it easier to breathe while you exercise vigorously. Until then, work with your pulmonologist and respiratory therapy staff for the safest way to exercise while treating your asthma.

Eat at a deficit and you'll lose weight, then you can add exercise.

You can lose weight! It's hard, but you can do it!

Can you walk outside? A lot of people walk for some exercise. :)

Make sure you consult with your doctor before you start any type of exercise, if your asthma has gotten bad enough to cause you problems regularly. It can be dangerous to attempt to exercise unless you are being supervised by a doctor or a respiratory therapist, with a rescue medication readily available.

Thank you all for the great tips! I am seeing a specialist. I'm starting to watch what I eat and log it. So far I've lost 2 lbs. I do walk a least a mile a day. Baby steps but I'm determined to loose the weight!
