TOM help

So it's t-1.5 days until THAT time and it's my first since getting started on MFP. My TOMs are worse than usual so I'm on a version of the pill to make them only every 3 months and not as intense (I used to be completely nonfunctional) but it's still really bad. I've had no binging urges since I started losing weight but now all I want to do is curl up with a box of chocolate donuts, cry, and take a nap. Any suggestions to curb cravings and get motivated? I already tried just a few pieces of really dark chocolate and now I want fifteen more.

Work out! Exercise endorphins, even if it's just a walk always help me curb those symptoms.0

Work out. Freeze that chocolate. Leave the house.
But to be honest, I always ate over my maintenance calories for 1-2 days and always saw a drop on the last day of my period (this month, with 5 pounds to goal, is the first time that didn't happen). I wouldn't beat myself up too much if you go over goal. There's also a fairly old study (that hasn't been replicated to my knowledge) showing that your BMR is higher when you're PMSing.0 -
Thanks for the suggestions! Slightly amusing update: I read the "work out" suggestions and decider to ignore them because they sounded awful at the time but, just as I resolved to ignore them, fire alarm went off at work (false alarm) and since I work on the top floor that meant going down and back up 14 flights of stairs and walking a block away. I hated it at first, but by the time I was back up, I was feeling so much better. I didn't want to cry or nap or anything. So I guess the moral of the story is to just get off your butt and just go for it.
That said, I would still die for a chocolate shake rn.0 -
No-sugar-added fudgsicles are my methadone for when I really want chocolate ice cream. Real dark chocolate, while excellent, is too calorie dense for my needs unless I have exactly one perfect square in the house.
I mean, yeah, you should exercise! (And actually it helps me to hydrate with tons of water/tea/whatever's low-calorie that you find yummy. Also not worrying about or moving a weigh-in if it falls smack in the middle of your TOM: I always magically "gain" 2-4 lbs and "lose" them a few days after my period ends.)0 -
Yep, exercise. My periods are so much more bearable since I started exercising regularly.0

Exercise definitely helps, although it sometimes takes a lot of willpower to get out the door to get started. It helps that my husband will sometimes ask "Aren't you going for a run today?" and my lifting partner doesn't let me dodge out.
That said there's also nothing wrong with eating at maintenance for a day when you really just feel like it.0 -
