How does mightiness conclude that 100g of spinach leaves contain 79g of sodium, can that be right?

Sounds right.... one serving of spinach from Del Monte contains 30 calories, and 260g of sodium.

If you don't have medical diagnosed issues with sodium intake, don't worry about it.

Everything contains sodium in it (this would include meat and veggies) even if you haven't added any into or onto it. Living organisms need sodium to live (so do we, by the way). So if there is zero sodium in an MFP food entry, the entry is definitely wrong, unless it was a non-living thing (i.e. something artificial like Splenda, or vitamins, etc.).

Incorrect. Most fruits and fats (lard, many oils, etc) are completely sodium free.

Many health experts suggest keeping an eye on sodium even if you don't have a cardiovascular problem...so that you don't get diagnosed with one.

Lots of good info here: http://sodiumbreakup.heart.org/sodium-411/

One serving of Del Monte has 260mg (milligrams) of sodium, not grams.

OP, Google says that 100g of spinach has 79 milligrams of sodium so your source probably just accidentally typed "g" rather than "mg" for the amount.
