Are there specific workouts to help you run faster besides for the actual running?

You can do HIIT for the explosive bursts, as well as strength training (i.e. squats, deadlifts) to strengthen muscles in the legs.
Run.
I'm not entirely good with this stuff to be honest.0 -
You can add in speed/interval work, tempo runs, etc. Vary your run workouts. Run slower on easy/recovery days and then faster on speed or tempo days. Weight loss also contributes to increased speed. You can do ladder drills to help with increased cadence, and strides to practice quick leg turnover. Those are the things that first come to mind. You will get faster with a good training plan and time - it will take time.0
