I think I got glutened last night...for those of you who are gluten intolerant or gluten sensitive, what symptoms do you have when you are "glutened"?

I have been tested at the Drs, but it came back negative. I know I feel better tho when I cut gluten out.

Bloating, stomach ache, fatigue, migraine, constipation, joint pain, hair loss, mouth sores are my most common symptoms. Symptoms hit within half an hour to 3 days later and usually last hours (bloating) to weeks (joint paint).

Did you get all the celiac tests done? I ask because doctors often just run one or two, and most celiac tests have a sensitivity around 75%. The more tests done the more likely it is that the disease will be caught.

    These are the tests:
tTG IgA and tTG IgG (tissue transglutaminase)
DGP IgA and DGP IgG (deaminated gliadinpeptides)
    EMA IGA (endomysial antibodies)
total serum IgA - a control test
AGA IgA and AGA IgG (anti-gliadin antibodies) - an older and less reliable test
endoscopic biopsy - 6+ samples taken

The blood tests all need the patient to be consuming gluten in the 8-12 weeks prior to testing. The biopsy has a gluten challenge of only 2-4 weeks.

    Feel better soon.

My son, who also had a negative test but has symptoms when eating gluten (and his family is full of celiacs), develops merely bloating and increasing mood difficulties. His uncle and grandfather, both celiacs, get upset stomach and bowel problems for a few days. His sister, also a celiac, gets severe nausea, the shakes, vomiting, and huge depression/anxiety issues for a days.

The celiac test has inaccuracies, as nvsmomketo mentioned. The current experts recommend blood test, biopsy, trial diet, and genetic testing. If three of the four of those are positive, then it's considered a positive diagnosis, because there is so much differentiation in this disease that sometimes, the tests can be negative for ANY of the four tests and you still have it (for example, genetic testing only looks at the most common genes for celiac disease, but there are some rare ones that you can have which are rarely tested for).

Sorry you're feeling sick. Hope you feel better soon once your body recovers.

I've been tested and was negative as well, but know I have an issue with gluten. Gastrointestinal problems are my biggest issue.
