Not really new, per say, but starting a new journey

Hello MFPers.
I'm Jeff. I'm finally ready to confront my struggles with weight and fix it for good.
My story isn't really unique. I grew up playing a lot of sports. I ate a lot but I burned a lot. When I went away to college I realized my new life was leading to weight gain, so I picked up running and cycling and that helped a lot. Eventually I got "busy" and stopped running, cycling, and weight training but continued eating as if I was still doing those things every day. Needless to say I gained weight. A lot of it.
I decided to make a change. I started it. I made good progress. I even ran a half marathon. Things were looking up. But I wasn't really ready for that half marathon. I injured myself and then used that as an excuse. "I'll start running again next week" I said every week for a year or more. Meanwhile my weight was continuing to climb.
I've started and given up on this journey several times. Each time throwing in the towel and returning to poor food decisions and ignoring the obvious problem. I don't know what clicked recently but I have a renewed desire to get healthy. I will do it this time.
I started 8 days ago. I'm down 10.9 pounds. I've been to the gym. I haven't had a "cheat meal" a "cheat week" or even "one last day of stuffing my face." I picked up a new diet and exercise plan and I haven't looked back yet. It's still early but I am confident I can do this.
So hello. Best of luck with your goals. Wish me luck with mine.
