Garmin connect and mfp connective issues?

So I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing wrong but I cannot get the two apps to communicate whatsoever. The calories from mfp won't show up on connect and my steps from connect won't show up on mfp. Any suggestions? How did you get it to work? I have a vivosmart if that helps at all.

I set up my Vivofit 2 from the Garmin connect app. There is a Fitness link within the drop down menu. Click on that, then select "Fitness", select "Calories". Once you do this it will allow you to connect to MFP ( you will have to log in at the prompt). Once you do that it should sync automatically every few minutes, with MFP sending your calorie intake over to Garmin connect. This is how it worked for me and I've been using both apps for about 2 months now.
