Oatmeal and Brown Rice

I've been trying hard to ear healthier, and to some extent I've succeeded. I've managed to start liking salad, and I've cut butter, oil, and mayo out of my diet almost entirely. Fried foods, including homemade are all a thing of the past. I've never been a large soda fan, so that wasn't hard to cut out.
But I can't get myself to like brown rice or oatmeal, no matter how I try to hide it. I don't like relying only on potato and whole wheat foods for my only complex carbs.
Anyone have any ideas? Granola is almost edible, can anyone help with recipes that don't take a lot of oil or butter?

Eat white rice. It has almost the same nutritional profile as brown rice.
You might try baked oatmeal:

Oooh, that looks delicious, I'll have to buy a few things to make it tomorrow! Thanks!0 -
Have you considered bircher muesli or overnight oats? Just a few ideas:

Even my 7 year old loves that baked oatmeal recipe - it's delicious!0

Try mixing oatmeal with other things, like yogurt, protein powder, fresh fruit or peanut butter.
Have you tried sweet potatoes? A little salt, a little cinnamon...awesome. Despite the name, they have a low glycemic index.
(not sure why you'd want to cut butter and oils out of your diet entirely...fat in moderation is good for you)0 -
if you don't like brown rice then eat white rice. If you don't like oatmeal then don't eat it, or have some whole wheat toast for breakfast or a bagel. Or, you can add some fruit to your oatmeal, that is what I usually do, but I don't eat that much oatmeal.
Just going to throw this out there OP, no one food is health or unhealthy. It really boils down to an overall healthy diet, or an unhealthy diet. So you can eat the foods you like, just make sure you are meeting micro and macro requirements, and staying within your calorie goal.0 -
If you want more complex carbs, try a whole grain pasta, sprouted breads, lots of cold cereal options.
Agreed that white and brown rice are very similar. I love rice-but it's not something I rely on to be nutrient dense. It doesn't have a lot of fiber or protein-so I look to the above mentioned items to meet those numbers and eat rice for carbs and happiness0 -
Well to start I don't think you should try to make yourself eat anything that you don't like. However, I love love love oatmeal and am also a huge fan of baked versions. They're fantastic an totally customizable!
Same for brown rice. I personally love it, you could also try sweet potatoes, quinoa, or couscous.0
