    Depends on the cravings.

My number one defense to prevent cravings is to not let myself get hungry. I try to make sure my overall calorie goal isn't too low.

I try to replace whatever I am craving with a healthy alternative. For example, I love sweets so I make sure I have blueberries or other fruit to try to avoid having the unhealthy choice. Sometimes, like yesterday actually, the cravings are just so intense that I will treat myself in moderation. The key is to only do this when the craving is distracting you. I had some sweets yesterday because I couldn't focus on anything else but just focused on eating healthy for the rest of the day and being more on target today.

Drink water. All. The. Time. Also, don't let yourself get too hungry (I try to eat every few hours). My main problem with "cravings" is that I "crave" to eat junk at night while I'm watching TV. I'm not actually hungry... I'm just bored and do it out of habit so I have something to do I think.... so instead of reaching for some chips I drink water. That helps to fill me up, give me something to do.. and help me reach my water goal for the day also :)

I fight the cravings by telling myself everything contrary to my cravings. e.g. Pizza is the greatest! Greasy, tasty! So I say, "It'll make you sick, you'll get fat, it's not worth it, etc. We have to learn discipline.

Great 1st post! My cravings are usually from massive carb depletion. So I eat a pure carb (like honey) to counteract that drop....like...just now.

I replace my fatty cravings with a healthier option:

Craving cake? I have a FiberOne Cheesecake bar or Fiberone Lemon bar.
Craving bread or carbs? I have a healthy bowl of Special K cereal with 1% milk.
Craving pizza? I make my own healthy pizza using wheat crust and low-fat cheese.
Craving ice cream? I eat Skinny cow products or have a yogurt parfait.
Craving chips/crunchy foods? I instead eat Garden of Eatin' Blue Tortilla chips

It also helps me to pre-log my calories for the day to see if the snack fits my macros/caloric intake. If it fits everything, I will indulge.

I try to find a distraction so I'll forget about it. I don't get too many...probably because I give myself lots of little snacks throughout the day. But if I am feeling an itch I don't think I should scratch I go for a walk, clean something up around my house, or run and errand...anything that will give me 15 minutes of distraction and I usually forget all about it.

This may lead to disordered thinking concerning food.
