thd issue in having is how do I properly enter an exercise like racquetball, when the step counter accounts for the steps taken, but not the cardio aspect of the game? I don't want to over estimate my exercise achieved calories.

A FitBit would also have maybe added floors and "active" minutes. How many calories did it say you burned?0

If you mean you've connected an activity tracker like Fitbit to your account, then log your racquetball either in the tracker app (that's what I do) or in MFP—never both.
Exercise logged in MFP overwrites your tracker burn during that time, so you never "double dip" your burns.0 -
Have you thought about getting a HRM?0
