Today at work we are having a "spring fling". They will be cooking hamburgers and hotdogs and then they'll be chips and all that fantastic stuff. I meant to bring my own lunch but I woke up late. I can not leave work because I helped plan the party and that will not fly. So i dont know what to do. I'm going to try to look up the calories for a hot dogg. I think that would be better than a hamburger. What do you think?

Hamburger without the bun and minimal condiments should be fine...and is healthier than all the processed low-end meat products that go into a hotdog. Maybe they will have grilled chicken at the party?

Just had a bunch of backyard BBQ's at my house, and I survived on grilled chicken, burgers without buns, and minimal chips. Anything you consciously do to limit your BBQ intake is an improvement over prior BBQ eating habits!

Yeah when given the choice, I go for hot dog as I think they are less. Maybe try eating it without the bun and load up on veggies and fruit if there is any.

I think one hot dog or one burger is not going to kill you! As long as you aren't eating one everyday....there's no harm!

When I eat things that aren't the best for me, it gives me a motivation to work harder at the gym!!

So enjoy your work party, and don't let one hot dog or burger get you too worked up! :)

    Hi Erica,

It's always hard to keep track when you have work dos or going out to eat! I try to avoid the bread because that seems to be where you get a lot of calories you don't need. If you can eat the hot dog without the bun and if they have any other veggies to avoid the chips you might not fall off the wagon too much.

Keeping track on here has made me realize a lot of my calories come from bread and alcohol which makes going out really hard.

    Best of luck!

90/10 ground beef is 160 calories for 4 ounces. Your average burger at the party is probably 6-8oz so between 240-320 calories. Burgers have lots of protein, so load up on the tomato, lettuce, and maybe a slice of cheese. I would just leave off the bun. You could probably have a burger with a little cheese, lettuce, tomato, and some baked chips (better yet fruit??) for around 500 calories. Stick with water and you are set!

Hot dogs actually don't have that much protein. I would stick with the red meat. Good Luck!

    Hi,
What ever you do DON'T nibble.
Make a decision, like to have one hot dog or one burger, no bread. 4 chips and any salad if its there. Think of what you are going to eat later - make your decisions and STICK to them. Then , hopefully you can enjoy your day, keep busy and feel good about yourself.
    Up your exercise.
    No pain no gain.
Get rid of that GREEDY GENE.

Just remember your goals. A slimmer, healthy and sexier you!

If its in your mind the day will go faster.

I love all those tasty foods to. But cutting the portions size what ever it is will make a difference!

    GOOD LUCK!

    Rells:)

I like this idea. Although generally hamburgers out aren't 90/10...usually 80/20 or maybe lower. People are cheap! But still, the principle here can work. Maybe not eat the whole burger and a handful (ie 5-10) chips? Or just have the burger and no chips?

Could you expand on the lettuce/tomato idea and maybe make your own mini-salad out of the toppings that are available if there isn't a veggie tray or some healthier options?

The hot dog may have less calories, but its so processed with all the salt and nitrates in it. Personally, I'd feel better physically with the burger over the dog and more satisfied.

    Good luck!

If not this party, then the next one offer to bring a bowl of fresh fruit or a plate of raw veggies. My office became a "candy-free" zone in January because we had gone crazy with no stops from Easter last year right through Christmas. We now have a bowl of mixed nuts and a bowl of raisins to snack on. Believe it or not, it works! Also, someone now ALWAYS brings the fruit or veggies for a party. It provides an alternative to the chips and even the guys eat it! Good luck and, yes, a burger with minimal bun, minimal condiments, and the lettuce, tomato, and onion. Moderation is my mantra.
