Joined Gym, How to Count?

I have joined the gym and am confused now how to count my calories. I don't want to get big but ripped.
I am assuming my intake should be more but with MFP I need to enter a goal weight and have no idea. Can someone point me in the direction to figure this all out? OR i guess the question is, if I am lifting weights now how many calories do I know I have burned?

get a heart rate monitor.0

You won't get an accurate calorie expenditure from a heart rate monitor. It's very hard to accurately determine the amount of calories burned during strength training.0
