Gym Workout Help !

Hi there,

I have always been small (normal weight is about 8 stone 3) - however last year I went up to 8 stone 12 which was the most uncomfortable I have ever weighed.

I am currently at 8 stone 6 but want to get to my ideal weight of 8 stone before I go on holiday in 6 weeks - which is losing about a pound a week.

I have started going to the gym 3/4 times a week as of a week ago! I normally start with 30 minutes vigorous cardio on the treadmill or cross trainer or bike then 30 minutes weight training which I change up between arm, butt and leg workouts!

Calories have been varying from 1100 - 1400 a day - mostly healthy with one cheat meal a week.

will this be sustainable to get to my goal before my holiday?

if not what is the most effective work out I could be doing? :)

I would recommend doing the cardio portion of your workout after you have completed your strength training. Vigorous cardio can easily sabotage your resistance training if done beforehand. That being said you will still want to "warm up" with some cardio to get the body ready for lifting, but keep it to 5 minutes or so.

As Mike says, lift first then cardio. Nothing wrong with the calorie intake just watch out how you're feeling. Only other thing to add and I wont be the last to say it:

Don't focus on the scales - I know its an easy way to measure whats happening and so taking it into account may be helpful but I would focus on how you feel and look first. Everyone is different so how you justify 8st as your ideal weight I do not know.

You've got a great recipe there though and it looks like you're focused and dedicated. Just remember that things take time with body changes and 6 weeks should show you those changes but don't be tempted to make drastic changes if you aren't making progress at the rate you think you should. Small tweaks and see how you feel.

Also for the weights, i really recommend some good compound lifts in there, squats especially, they're a whole body exercise and you can keep progressing them every session.
