Just wanted to encourage some of you if you were wondering if you can reduce your cholesterol by losing weight.
I never had cholesterol issues before. I don't know what my levels were at my highest weight. When they measured my cholesterol I had already lost 15 pounds. So here were my numbers back in November:
Total 208 (range 100-199)
HDL 60 (range >39)
LDL 137 (range 0-99)
Here are the changes that I made:
1) Continued to lose another 15 lbs
2) Added walking as exercise (since April)
3) Increased my fiber intake to around 40 g, give or take (since March)
4) Stopped eating partially hydrogenated fats (immediately)
5) One of my medicines that can raise cholesterol levels was reduced to a lower dosage (this only happened two weeks ago, so I don't know how much effect it had on my levels)
Eight months later my levels are:
Total 173 (range 100-199)
HDL 54 (range >39)
LDL 107 (range 0-99)
Although, my LDL cholesterol is still a bit high it dropped my over 20%. And my total cholesterol is within the normal range. It is possible to control your cholesterol by diet and exercise. Although my doctor wanted me to go on a low fat diet, but I didn't want to, since I have eaten fat all my life without regard to it, I did not want to decrease it other than the trans fats. I only worry about trying to meet my protein levels and get enough fiber in when I watch my macros.

Congratulations.
Healthy fat is no longer thought by all doctors to negatively affect cholesterol despite what your doctor advised. It sounds like your plan worked.Good job!
