Body Image Anecdote

I have seen a lot of stories on here about people who have lost weight, but who look in the mirror and still see the heavier version of themselves. It's an interesting phenomenon, and it made me think of a story my husband once told me. His older brother had surgery quite a few years back where they corrected a jaw problem he had. He went from having a severe under-bite to having a jaw that lined up much better. My husband told me that the first time he saw his brother after the surgery, he looked at his face, and the entire lower half of it looked blurry. It was like his brain could not process that he looked different, so it just gave up. I'm no neuroscientist, but it kind of makes you think about the crazy ways our brains can trick us, huh?
