Hi everyone..can anyone help me please?

Hi everyone. I was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer and have had to have a full hysterectomy. Prior to this I have always weighed 52 kilos. I am 5 ft 2″. Since surgery I have jumped up to 60 kilos. In the last 4 weeks I have now increased to 65 kilos. I have had coeliac disease since birth and always need to stick to a strick gluten free diet. If anything I eat too little and not enough colories per day yet I always eat healthy foods like salads, fresh meat, fruit and vegatables and only drink water. Im just confused why I am gaining so much weight. Can anyone help me please to get back to my original weight? Thanks

It is very normal for your metabolism to take a hit with a full hysterectomy. You have basically been forced through menopause. My guess is that hormone replacement is out of the question right now due to your ovarian cancer Dx. However, I think that once you are cleared by a Dr. starting a low impact cardio routine and beginning weight-lifting would help you immensely. I would highly recommend talking to your Doctor, perhaps an OB/GYN about this issue and get in touch with a dietician.

I would not recommend strictly seeking advice from this website due to your somewhat specialized history.
  • Due to specialized history I would talk with your doctor, but I know the weight gain is from the hormone changes from the hysterectomy, I am pretty positive that is the issue.

When I was diagnosed with Fibro my doctor told me I needed to start exercising, even if just a little. I was in so much pain I had no clue how I Was going to exercise, let alone make it through a day... but I built it up slowly and now I work full time, volunteer three nights a week, and still have some energy for a long walk or even a little jog.

Even though you are GF, try eating more nuts and good fats to fills calories up if you feel you are eating too little... and full fat foods, not low fat. I think once you start exercising, yes even just a little, you will feel better and some of the weight may come off or at least stabilize.

But due to your history and medical needs, I would consult with a professional.

I agree with everyone about seeking out a professional. But I will tell you from my personal experience and what I am going through with menopause. I have recently packed on weight over the past year. I am also a very healthy eater and my problem is to few calories also which i have just found out that with menopause i have thrown my body into a caloric starvation mode. Which basically means it's hoarding all the calories instead of wanting to burn them. I have also recently been sidelined by a workmens comp injury. So I have had to take it easier than I had before which also didnt help. But i recently found a nutritionist and I have to log my calories and intake 1200 daily, which is a huge task for me. I am starting week two of it so we shall see how it all goes. I also have a personal trainer for several sessions just to learn how to work out with the new limitations that I now have to live with. Good luck but it is doable :)

Hi, Thought I would add my 2 cents.

Your hormones are probably way out of wack with the hysterectomy. On top of that Celiac can effect your tyroid... trowing all of the hormones further out of balance from the hysterectomy.
I would believe you probably are way under calories. Celiac friendly diets are a PITA, I know... My mother has it. Plus, celiac in itself causes you to be unable to properly digest foods.

My suggestion for you would be to see a doctor about how your hormones are they are probably a big contributor to your recent weight gain. Also, don't beat yourself up over the weight gain, I'm sure thats partly from being down recovering from Cancer (and cheers for surviving!). The celiac complicates that even further, I believe, it makes it harder to loose weight as a adult.

Activity will likely be your best bet for actually loosing weight, (apart from making sure your hormones get settled down).

Anyway, good luck, and feel free to add me as a friend. While I do not have celiac I know how hard it can be to find anything to eat thats OK.
