Eating After Evening Workouts

Does anyone have some wisdom about what to eat to refuel your body after a hard evening workout (like between hours of 8-11pm). I know it's not healthy to eat before bed but you also need to replenish your body. Looking for fitness/health experts especially.

There's nothing 'unhealthy' about eating before bed0

It's fine to eat before bed. Are you hungry after you work out? Eat what you want. Some people like a bit of fruit, if you're lifting it might be nice to have some protein. It could be anything from a shake, to a later dinner, to a few pieces of deli meat.0

I'd probably go with something high protein, but not too spicy, sugary, or fatty (all things that can make it hard to to to sleep for me). Maybe some turkey jerky or a small bowl of oatmeal?0

The only reason it would be bad is if you have acid reflux and get burpy if you eat then lay down. I have late workouts twice a week. I usually eat a heavy snack/half meal around 4-5, then another heavy snack/half meal around 10pm when I get home. No issues.0

I go to work, have a little snack with carbs, then gym, then come home and make a proper dinner with protein and carbs Eating before bed is fine! I eat dinner late every night now so I don't veg when relaxing.0

After my last workout (8-9pm) I had a protein shake and a frozen fudge pop. The protein shake was for my muscles, the frozen fudge pop was purely for the taste of it.0

Depends on your definition of healthy. Does it affect weight loss? No. But it can disrupt your sleep and attribute to reflux and digestion issues. So for me, I saw eating before bed (without enough time to digest) isn't really healthy, but it's fine regarding weight loss.

I agree there is nothing wrong with eating late if that is what your schedule calls for. I would avoid a lot of fresh vegetables or fruit and go for protein and maybe the denser vegetables (this is because I don't like having to get up to use the restroom).
I would have to eat, otherwise in the morning I would be hangry!0 -

I usually go for a tub of quark and a piece of fruit or cracker with whatever I fancy and still fits my macros. I like keeping a stack of protein pancakes in the fridge too to quickly heat up and fill with whatever.0

I work out until 9:30 2 days a week based on the class time, and I eat full blown dinner when I get home. Meat, tater, veggie. I have to because I usually only have small snack before work out as to not vomit on instructor.0

I get about two-thirds of my daily calories after I work out in the late afternoon/early evening.
That said, if you're working out super late, eat a ton and then go right to bed - not sure how that affects your digestive system.0 -
During my best weight loss episode I was regularly eating a wholewheat bagel with peanut butter and drinking a protein shake after an evening workout.0

i eat dinner...i usually get home from the gym around 7:30 and eat around 9PM...and then I go to bed...because there's nothing inherently unhealthy about eating before bed.0

Yep, agree with everyone, I personally go for high protein, a few grams of carbs, and a fish oil tablet (fats are slow digesting keep me anabolic) and then its off to bed.0
