Any tips? Gravel gets into my trainers.

Hi, I'm a newbie, doing C25K. I often run on dirt roads and gravel tracks. I find little bits of grit and small stones get into my trainers - I think they must get flicked into the air behind my heels and make their way down between my shoes and socks. Do you have any tips to keep them out? I never seem to finish a run without getting "bits" in my trainers & they can get into uncomfortable positions, like under my heel. Thanks.

First - congrats on starting to run. I hope you love it.

Second - You can try tying bandanas around your ankles. We do that when hiking and it helps.

happens to me if i wear thin socks. No problem when I wear thick socks. Thick socks fill the gaps around my ankle.

A couple of things I have done that work fine. They do look 'different'. Not real fashionable.

Hiking gaiters. You can get short ones.

Double top socks. The inner layer is the sock. The outer layer folds down over the top
of your shoe. Kinda' hard to explain with out a picture. I'm sure google can help there.

Thanks for your suggestions. I HAD wondered about gaiters, hubby used to have them in our mountain climbing days, don't know where they are now. I'll try thicker, hiking-type socks, but they may not fit inside my trainers, I have unusually broad feet & have to wear men's trainers as they're wider than ladies'.

Maybe I could make lightly elasticated "gaskets" to cover the tops of the socks & shoes..... hmmmm. Google here I come.
