so I am definitely new to this but I wanted to count steps as part of my exercise and I walk a lot so I thought it would be a good idea now every time I walk I see MFP tells me that I burned crazy amount of calories but u was just walking no crazy heart rate or anything so my question is am I really burning all those calories or do I have to be going at a certain speed .

I burn around 1,000 calories doing 25,000ish steps . Sorry can't remember the exact numbers.
Do you have a fitbit or other tracking device, or are going by mfp's numbers?
I've got a fitbit synced with mfp which I trust. Mfp's calorie burns I wouldn't trust, as they are often inflated.0 -
If you are walking a specific range regularly then bump up your activity level. This is similar to what a FitBit would use

Walking for exercise....increases your fitness level. So yes, it's fast enough to challange you a bit.
