I never in my wildest dreams thought I would be telling anyone something like this, but I truly need to get it off my chest.
Last night I was having a fight with my husband. I was so angry I just jumped in the car and drove off. I drove around pissed off and hungry and before long I was sitting in a Taco Bell parking lot shoving food into my face. I just couldn't stop. I was so hungry and angry, at both him and myself.
This morning, instead of pretending it didn't happen, I had to face it. I forced myself to add up the calories and really look at what I had done. 2130 calories. In one sitting. At 9:30 at night. Needless to say, I the scale says I gained 2 lbs. since yesterday morning.
I am just sick with myself, and feel like I have undone all of the hard work I have put in over the ast few weeks. But I had to tell someone. I couldn't just let myself get away with it.
Thanks for listening.

Wow I am an emotional eater too...when I am stressed or depressed :grumble: . Really though now I have trained myself that no situation is worth jeopardizing my hard work but then again we all go through it; we are human . Don't be hard on yourself because you didn't eat 7000 extra calories (which you would have needed to gain 2 lbs.), just 2100 and the sodium is what is making your body retain water. Just drink lots of water and it will probably take up to 2 days to flush everything away but dust yourself off and focus on your goals again0

Cheer up! Stressing and shaming yourself over it wont help anything (especially your health). Today is a new day and you can start over or try and make up for it.
I cant tell you how many times I have wanted to do the Taco Bell pig out since I started. I am a little jealous that you got food from there (just not the way you got there)!0 -
Look at the salt content in the Taco Bell food you ate. I guarantee that's where your 2 lb came from.0

so, it's good to recognize this. It means somewhere along the line you began to associate food with comfort. This was probably reinforced by some kind of trauma in your life. Many people associate food with positive emotions (feelings of family, "home", the ability to be oneself...etc.), thus giving them comfort in times of pain, anger, or grief. The problem with this is, you aren't solving the problems by doing this, and thus just creating more emotional "baggage" by eating for comfort (not to mention the guilt you are adding by eating too much).
So how do we get over emotional eating? Well, there's no simple answer, many times it requires therapy, but sometimes you can begin just by recognizing the desire to eat for what it is, a coping mechanism.
I know this isn't something to look forward to, but planning begins now, not when the next problem happens. If you sit down and actively draw out a plan before you're in the emotional state, you may be able to head off the bad feelings and thus the strong desire to eat. I know this sounds easier than it is, and it may take a few times before you can actually be successful at blocking your desire. But it IS possible. Confronting your emotions when they happen is the most important thing you can do. Try your best not to allow yourself to eat when you stress, eventually if you confront your own emotions, you'll be able to recognize the warning signs and triggers, and effectively mitigate them before you find yourself overeating.
The problem with eating as a coping mechanism is that by definition, the person is denying the emotion, the only way to stop it, is to face your problems while you are not in an emotional state, rationally asking yourself why you feel this way, what the worst outcomes are, and really, in the grand scheme of things, how important these are to you. Many times you can overcome your own issues without the need for therapy, if only you knew where to begin, well, here you go.
best luck to you.

Emotional eating is a tough thing to break. The next time he upsets you, you should go for a walk (if you are able to) or anything other than getting in your car and eating. Before eating due to emotions, think whether eating will really make the situation any better. The hunger you felt might not be actual physical hunger but more mental. I still struggle with emotional eating and have to remind myself that eating X will not make me feel better because I usually don't even taste the food that I am eating. I am just looking to feel better.
It is great that you wrote down what you ate and now you can use that when other future situations arise where you feel the need to eat due to emotions.0 -
Its going to be ok. We're human and we goof. We overreact in anger. Don't let a mistake keep you down in defeat. Get up, brush yourself off, and go on. Its a bump in the road, nothing more. You've done the right thing by facing it.
I hope things are better between you and your husband. Changing the way we eat is so much easier when we have unity in our homes.0 -
Glad you picked yourself up and started over........Just drink tons water, to flush out all that excess sodium and continue doing the right things, and that two pounds will adjust itself in no time

Salt makes you gain weight or just retain water?0

Salt makes you gain weight or just retain water?
water's pretty heavy. It doesn't take a lot of water retention to make you gain a few lbs.
so to answer your question, both.0
