There’s a potential, and probably real, harm from consuming added sugars; there are most likely none from artificial sweeteners.
So sugar IS evil (potentially) and artificial sweeteners are not (most likely).0 -
My n=1 study concluded that artificial sweeteners are nasty.0

Added sugar is only bad because it's in just about EVERYTHING these days, usually in the form of corn syrup. Especially foods for kids! As long as you enjoy it in moderation, it's fine. Your body needs some sugars to function properly.
I'm glad to see a major article actually trying to treat the artificial sweetener issue fairly, though. So many articles focus on the 'upped the cancer rate in rats' without also mentioning they were fed MASSIVE doses each day, and that correlation has never been shown in humans. I'm happy with my Equal, it means I get to enjoy tasty tea instead of having to rely on water for hydration. (i can taste a lot of the minerals used to purify it, ugh!)0 -

Oh, the comments. I'm remembering the MFP member who said she quit drinking soda because it's "basically injecting yourself with embalming fluid" or something.Martha Atlanta 15 hours ago
I teach a corporate course in Effective Presentations. This week one of my participants presented results of a study he worked on that shows aspartame turns to FORMALDEHYDE (!) when it hits not just 120 degrees (apparently know to the medical field), but also body temperature. I try to eat well, but in order to limit my calorie intake, I sometimes have diet cola when wanting sweets. Going to cut them out after that!0 -

You have a terrible attitude.
I like you.
You're probably right, but I'm not sure how you deduced that from my post. Anyway, thanks.0 -
*sigh* Here we go again, 'Sugar is the devil!" Poor sugar, occurring naturally and still being villified. Sugar is fine in moderation. Problem is when people don't eat in moderation.
Small portions and single servings, folks, and a good balance of everything within calorie goals. That's all it takes to be healthy.0
