I just started wellbutrin. I am full of energy and it is supressing my appetite! great for now, but what is going to happen after I have taken it a while? has anyone gained after being on it a while? I know everyone is different, I just want to hear the experience of others who have taken it.\m/

Hi,
I've been on the generic Welbutrin...Buproprin XL...for over a year now. When I first took it, I felt the same way. Crazy amount of energy...cleaned everything in my house, even the fridge...and had no appetite at all. I literally had to make myself take a bite or two of something at least once a day.
However, it wore off after about 2 weeks. After that, I had an appetite and normal energy, but it GREATLY helped my depression. I was on it over a year ago, then stopped for about 6 months. I did gain back some weight that I had initially lost from it, but I think that was more of a result of the depression.
I know some people hate it, but it has worked so well for me - literally changed my life. Now, I am hoping that an improved diet and exercise will enable me to cut down my dosage by half, and eventually wean off of it all together. I have had no bad side effects from it, but I don't like taking a medication everyday if I can prevent it. For now, though, I absolutely need it.0 -
I took it for about 10 months 7 or 8 years ago and I freakin' loved it. I had so much energy that I had to workout or I couldn't sleep. Sometimes I was actually working out twice a day. I lost about 25 pounds without really trying. But I never noticed any effects to my appetite. I had extremely vivid, yet boring dreams. Stupid things, like a conversation with my husband. Then later I would realize that couldn't possibly have happened because the furniture I saw him sitting on we had gotten rid of years before. It was fairly easily to come off of it when I didn't need it anymore.
Before that I had a bad experience with Zoloft. I gained about 40 pounds, had this kind of surreal, dreamy feeling all the time. I would forget random things that I should have known, things like phone numbers that I called several times each day. My dreams were vivid, but violent. I'd have dreams I was fighting people and then actually kick my legs (much to my boyfriends surprise!). Coming off of it was awful. I had horrible withdrawal symptoms that lasted about 4 weeks.
My depression hasn't been that severe since I stopped the Wellbutrin and I no longer take any meds at all, for depression or anything else.0 -
Wellbutrin suppresses my appetite for the first few weeks I'm on it, but then that goes away. Funny, it's the one side effect I wish would stick around!0

I've been on Wellbutrin for 7 years now (yeahhhhh). I currently have a normal appetite and energy level!0

One side effect I had was intensely vivid dreams. They were so vivid and completely crazy, like once I dreamt that I lived in ancient Rome and was married to the emperor. I remembered every single detail of our palace when I woke up. I had crazy dreams like this every single night. My doctor said this is a pretty common side effect. I was only on Welbutrin for a few months, though. The dreams stopped after I stopped taking Welbutrin. I don't remember that it suppressed my appetite all that much.0

I have been on Wellbutrin since 1997 because of a head injury. When I stop taking it my headaches return. But as far as appetite suppression,, it lasted for a very short time. I wish I had happy more vivd dreams!0

I was on wellbutrin for a month after a very traumatic accident and had to be taken off of it because it made me crazy. As in suicidal crazy. Evidently, the main chemical is something I have an adverse reaction to which is found in some other meds that we found did the same thing. Good luck to you!0

I was on Wellbutrin about 12 years ago. I can't remember the appetite suppression but it helped me quit smoking! And I had some sleep issues. Currently I'm on Prozac, more for helping to stop my compulsive overeating than anything else. But I feel good on it; I would say 4-5 nights out of 7 I'm able to curb my nighttime binging. This also causes some sleep issues, though; I wake up and can't get back to sleep. Depends on the night if it's worse or better. I see nothing wrong with taking meds to help you feel better!0

I am on Wellbutrin and have noticed an appetite change. I get hungry, but I get full a lot easier than I used to.0

Been on it for a while and it still keeps my appetite in check. It doesn't suppress my appetite per say but does prevent me from eating due to boredom. This is what has helped keep my diet in check; I'm a more compulsive eater when I forget my dose.0
