People put on water weight for a number of reasons:
    • eating more sodium than you usually do
    • eating more carbs than you usually do
    • hot and humid weather
    • doing a new exercise or adding more time, weight, etc to current exercise
    • medical conditions that cause edema like heart or kidney problems
    • TOM for the ladies

The best way to get rid of it is time and drink more water. Yes, it seems counter-intuitive but staying well hydrated will help your body not retain water. Generally for me, water weight from excess sodium takes an extra day to drop, excess carbs takes 2 days. Exercise water takes about a week. Hot weather takes until it cools off.

If you are concerned, see you doctor to make sure you do not have a medical issue that is causing you to retain more water than normal. I would stay away from diuretics, even OTC, unless your MD suggests them. They can backfire on you and start causing even more water retention.

You gain water because your body needs to keep water on hand for bodily functions. Cut back on salty foods and drink 8 - 10 glasses of water a day.

Your weight probably only swings 1 - 3 pounds over due to water weight. If that's all you need to meet your goal weight then you can factor that in. If you need to lose more than 5 pounds then it's not a significant factor in what you weigh and you should focus on hitting your calorie goals each day.

Personal preference - some people log wake to sleep - some log 12 to 12.

I usually log it in the same page. I consider my day to be between waking up and going to sleep, no matter when that actually happens according to the clock.
