How do you calculate the calories burned from weight training? Do you have to have a Fitbit or some other contraption?

I use this calculator tool, it goes by your weight and age and what type of activity: http://www.healthstatus.com/calculate/cbc

It takes a lot of strength to weight train, and many times I'm totally out of breath, even if for only a few minutes at a time. On Monday I did a hard leg workout (barbell squats, leg adductor, leg abductor, leg extensions, and leg curls). I was beat. But I got NO credit for the work as far as MFP is concerned... lol. Because I didn't account for any calories. So, how do I calculate the calories burned during/after a hard weight lifting workout?

MFP will give you a number if you enter it as weight/strength training under the Cardiovascular section of the Exercise Diary. The weight lifting part is just for tracking what you did and won't give calories.

You should be careful of the calories MFP is giving you, though. It has no idea how much of the time you enter you were actually lifting and how much you were resting. I get 280 calories or so for a one hour session. I usually enter 90. It's always better to underestimate your calorie burns than over-estimate especially if your calorie goal for the day is small. You don't want to wipe out your deficit by eating too many extra calories.

Most calories from weight training are slightly higher than your BMR or as much as just walking around, no real significant burn

This. You don't burn many calories lifting.
