MFP wants me to eat below the BMR it gives me?

Try setting your goal for 1 pound a week. If you want to lose more than that then find something to do everyday that will burn another 500 calories.

For sedentary activity level and weight loss of 1 lb/week or more the Daily calorie goal is almost always below the BMR, not that this matters anyway.

If you log exercise and eat the extra calories your intake obviously goes up.
